Location: Carang sari

The run started with an unusual round-about-circle kind of thing so that we all ended up back at the start point after about 5 minutes. Some were confused and thought it was time to startr drinking beer (indeed, some already had) but alas this was not to be. We were quickly routed down some steps that seemed like a downward journey of tens, nay hundreds of steps. There were amazing small pools that had been littered on the way down and almost all of them seemed to contain a vast number of beautifully adorned Balinese ladies in traditional attire.

Once we finally reached the bottom of the step, almost at river level, we turned onto what appeared to be an older more established trail. This carried on relatively level for a while though an extremely gorgeous river valley. It was as if some magical beings has left behind an amazing maze designed to delight the senses. But then the inevitable up began….. when you go down that many steps you kind of mentally prepare yourself for the inevitable up, but this was one of the more extraordinary ups that consisted of up and overs and around and trail and steps and root and well you get the general idea. Having rested a few times during the ascent, when I finally made it to the top, I had to find a hiding place to sit and rest a moment.

Someone saw me sneaking away and yelled Are You to which I simply responded CHECKING. After recovering for a few minutes, I was finally able to rejoin the run with a few of the other more senior hashers. The trail carried on for awhile and finally we came to the first or 2 splits. Of course I bailed immediately to the Short but I was assured that had I taken the log it wold have been rewarding. I decided to take the Hare’s word for it, avoided eye contact as I feigned looking for paper and sprinting into the underbrush.

Carrying on with a few other Shorters, we followed the paper across a road into the rice paddies on a now relatively gentle trail. We encountered our Virgin Hare further on as he was checking the runners and stopped to thank him for the hard work and the beautiful trail. Well set, well planned, very beautiful.

Back at the Bintang Truck I eagerly down a glass of the amber liquid of life and started to feel better. A couple more and I was almost back to normal. The circle soon started and everyone gathered around. Hash Master Muddyman asked everyone about the run and there was, by my count at least, an almost overwhelming agreement that it was a great run. The Hares proceeded to the Down Down stage of the ritual and next up was returning hashers, following by visiting hashers and virgin hashers.

Soon Nightjar was brought into the circle where upon he shared his pearls of wisdom regarding the full moon amongst other things. Victor spent a bit of time reminding everyone of the etiquette of hash regarding check backs and checking and whatnot. A welcome reminder for the younger hashers who may have not remember all of these things.  After not too long, RA FU joined the circle and we continued on with our circle fun. By then I was at a loss to remember much more, but I did awake on Sunday to remember that we had a beautiful run with a lovely circle full of fun and friends.
