All About Hash Runs

A Runner's Guide

A Hound's Guide

1. Never believe what the Hare says about his trails.

2. Before the start of the run, the Hash Master will explain the runs briefly, and this will give you idea of which run to take (short or long or medium if there is a medium run set).

3. If you are not fit enough, do not do the long Run. If you are new to hashing, do a short Run first and go with someone, once you feel confident then do the long Run. Always be careful on the Run, sometimes it’s slippery.

4. Know the name of the location of the start of the Run. In case you get lost you will be able to tell someone where you want to go.

5. If you are alone and get injured, stay on the trail or try to get to a mark (an on-on or check around). That way it will be easier to locate you.
Do not try and find your way in the dark if you are not on trail (no hash marks), unless you are found by a local villager, then ask for assistance or directions, or ask them to guide you to the On Home.

6. It is best not to short-cut, unless you know exactly where you are going. Asking villagers sometimes leads to misunderstandings that can make your run longer, or may simply put you on a main road. The object of Hashing is to follow the sign (shredded paper, chalk, etc) not just ask someone for directions, unless you are lost and not on paper.

7. Be aware of who the Hare is, there are some Hares who set more difficult or longer trails than others.
